New D3SOE Handbook

On 15 June, 2018, the Center for Army Lessons Learned officially released a new handbook titled “Operating in a Denied, Degraded, and Disrupted Space Operational Environment (D3SOE),” publication number 18-28. The D3SOE Handbook provides Warfighters with techniques, derived from lessons learned, on how to effectively sustain space capabilities and integrate them into mission planning, training, and mitigation strategies for operating in a D3SOE.  The intended use of the D3SOE Handbook is not limited to space operators or other space professionals.  It is applicable to any person or team needing to sustain space capabilities to support the mission. The Army depends upon space capabilities to enable and enhance land warfare; virtually every Army and Joint operation benefits from these capabilities. The use of space domain assets increases the effectiveness of our combat forces. The space domain is critically important to the emerging concept of the multi-domain battle and it takes an integrated team effort to succeed and remain ahead of our potential adversaries.  These adversaries are aware of the U.S. military's use of and reliance upon space-enabled equipment and will try to disrupt those assets. All of us working together as a team will operate in a D3SOE setting against our opponents in current and future conflicts. We can better communicate, navigate, target, find, fix, and finish the enemy; anticipate weather and its impact on operations; and protect our forces by applying the techniques in the D3SOE Handbook to thwart adversary attempts to cripple our space operations capabilities.
